May 28th – Our Highest Human Activity

The aim of the church of Jesus Messiah is to make disciples out of unbelievers. It is to serve the community:to be the caring, sensitive, welcoming fellowship which embraces all who need loving, and who doesn’t? In short the work and mission of the church is out amongst the people of the world.
Now there is something else which is the supreme privilege of the church – and that is worship. However, we tend to confuse these two things. We try to get people who do not know God to worship him, but in a real sense its not that they don’t want to – they cannot. You can’t worship whom you do not know. To sit through an act of worship without being personally aware of God must be the most single boring and meaningless waste of time known to man.To know God, to be aware of the person and work of Jesus; to be alive in the Holy Spirit, is to take one’s place and part in a worshipping community which is the highest activity of which human beings are capable.

Praise is a Christian’s privilege and priority.Praise is an expression of adoration and love, to the one who first loved us.The highest purpose of mankind is ‘to glorify God, and to enjoy Him for ever’.The Hebrews have lots of words for worship, such as Hallel, which is to magnify God, as in Hallelujah. Todah – is to confess God to open up the whole of the house to the glory light.
Zamar is to sing, to present your body and voice for God to use.
Yodah is to reach out our arms in glory.
Oz – strength, power, by which even infants praise stills the rattle of hell and shuts up the devil!.

Of course worship is more than praise:it is the total enthronement of God our maker, our redeemer, our saviour, and our sanctifier.Together, to adore the only selfless One, who needs it not, but delights in our delight.
I rejoiced with those who said to me “Let us go to the house of the Lord”
How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise him! ” Psalm 122:1 and 147:1

A Prayer:
Blessed be God, who has done all things well.

Now read and rejoice in Psalm 96.

Thought 4 The Day

Praising God does not mean paying Him compliments. It does mean revelling in His company.
