February 17th – Just Two Wishes

All right – you’ve got two things you can ask for before you die – just 2! What would they be? Go on, take time and ponder.This is not magic, it is practical prayer. You have two things you can ask God for – if not for yourself, for your children. What would you ask?
This is from the Book of Proverb (Proverbs 30: 7-9)
Two things I ask of you, O Lord; do not refuse me before I die:
(i) Keep falsehood and lies far from me;
(ii) Give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread.
Otherwise I may have too much and disown you, and say ‘Who is the Lord?’
Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonour the name of my God.
Two things:
One-deliver me from being untrue, from living a lie, from speaking lie,make me true,because all liars are an offence to you, Lord.
Two-give me just enough. Not too much, or I’ll get a rich man’s haughty arrogance and not too little or I may be tempted to steal. Just give me my daily bread – which means a heart that can be satisfied.
Two things Lord I ask of you: One, a heart that’s honest and true, and two, my daily bread – a heart that can be satisfied.These were the two desires of the wise man of long ago. What would be the two things you will ask of God for before you die?
Hey, I wonder if this is what Jesus meant when he taught us to pray: “Give us this day our daily bread”?
Do not store up for yourselves treasure on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6: 19-21
I love that church poster which reads: ‘I had no shoes, and grumbled, then I met a man with no feet.”
A Prayer: Every day I will praise you and give thanks to you for every good gift you have given so freely to me. Lord keep me thankful and faithful to you.
Now read Proverbs Chapter 26.
