April 11th – Do Not Cling To Me !

The most powerful word in the Christian message is simply this:Jesus, who died for us, IS ALIVE.He rose from the dead, fully and completely. Body, mind and spirit. HE IS RISEN.
Against this we live in a world that mutters ‘Dead men don’t come to life again’, ‘There is no resurrection’, yet they do believe in reincarnation (returning in another life-form). They believe in near or post death experiences (the return to life after being dead on an operating table or in a car crash). We are in a generation fascinated by ghosts and evil spirits, and so on, but live in total unbelief in the resurrection of Jesus Christ.Strange people, aren’t we?

The New Testament is unanimous about this. The resurrection of Jesus was no hallucination. He met too many people. He was no ghost, they could touch him. There were no bodily remains rotting in some ancient cave.Don’t you think his enemies would have produced the remains if they could? The same Jesus IS ALIVE-MORE ALIVE THAN EVER -but different.

How do you mean different? Well, at first they didn’t recognise him. Mary thought at first sight that he was the gardener. The two from Emmaus thought him to be a traveller. Then the apostles thought what they saw was a ghost. The disciples fishing in Galilee thought he was a shore-based spotter. But it was the same Jesus – who had risen.
Then why the gap in our immediate recognition? Was this difference what Jesus was helping us to understand in what he said to Mary?
“Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet returned to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them ‘I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God’.” John 20: 17
He was risen, glorified, but not yet ascended.More alive than we are, for we live only in one dimension. He is alive in two, and more.

A Prayer
Thank you Lord Jesus Christ that I do not need to travel to Jerusalem to seek you. You are here with me now.Help me to recognise your presence when I cannot reach out and touch you.

Now read John 20: 19-31.

if we do not believe in resurrection, then our hope is vain. He is alive that is why we can face tomorrow.May all have hope in resurrection.Thank God.
