August 4th – No one loves me anymore !

There are some prayers in the Bible I wouldn’t dare use. Perhaps I’m not intimate enough with God to get angry with him: perhaps I’m too religiously mummified to throw off my grave clothes and shout at him, as some of his children have done.
Why have you rejected us for ever …….?
Your foes roared in the place where you met with us ………..
They smashed all the carved panelling with their axes and hatchets. They burned your sanctuary to the ground; they defiled the dwelling place of your Name. They burned every place where God was worshipped in the land.
Psalm 74: 1-4, 6-8
This was a prayer chanted by a whole nation in bewildered anger and terror, which dared to accuse God of inconsistency, inaction, and indolence. Listen to more of the same Psalm:
We are given no miraculous signs; no prophets are left, and none of us knows how long this will be.How long will the enemy mock you, O God? Will the foe revile your name for ever? Why do you hold back your hand, your right hand? Take it from the folds of your garment and destroy them! Psalm 74: 9-11
Literally: ‘Get your hands out of your pockets Lord, and do something.’ Imagine talking like that – to God! Having expressed grief and rage and incomprehension, true faith still goes on praying to the only true King and God, and Lord of all it knows -even if it doesn’t understand him.Whatever black cloud hangs over your life right now, tell God how you feel. Don’t try to understand God or your black, bleak despair – be helpless, say so, and leave it all with him. Say as Paul said in II Corinthians 11:30
“If I must boast, I will boast of the things that show my weakness.”
A Prayer:
Lord God too often I am a tiny child very sorry for myself, crying “no one loves me anymore”, in order to feel your arms around me.
Now read II Corinthians Chapter 11 and feel the frustration, and the faith.
